Class offerings

All classes are held in our state-of-the-art dance facility located in the Litchfield section of Pawleys Island, SC.

Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) – A ballet curriculum embraced by the world’s dance education leaders. RAD discipline uses ballet as its base adding free movement and character for a full dance educational experience. RAD classes are offered for ages four through adult with a mandatory two classes per week.

Blossoming Ballerinas (Ages 2-3) – A class specially-designed for toddlers that includes playful coordination-enhancing dance games.

Pre-School Combo – An introduction to ballet and tap dancing styles taught in a fun-filled atmosphere of fantasy and whimsy.

Ballet (Ages 5+) – A class that provides ballet as the foundation for all dance to be taught prior to or along with other dance forms. Available in RAD, professional, and recreational formats.

Pointe (Ages 10+) – A twice weekly ballet class for students who wish to expand their skills. Students must qualify physically and technically as well as receive director approval to participate in this class.

Jazz (Ages 6+) – An upbeat, dynamic class in America’s most familiar and popular dance style.

Lyrical (Ages 8+) – A class that mixes elements from ballet, jazz, and modern styles to create an expressive dance experience.

Tap (Ages 4+) – Training that celebrates rhythm and agility while developing coordination and concentration.

Modern/Creative Movement (Ages 10+) – Instruction in a stylized dance form based on natural body movements.

Funk (Pre-teen+) – High energy pre-teen and teen classes teaching trendy dance moves for contemporary music.

Acro Dance (Ages 7+) – Active classes that mix acrobatics with jazz dance.

Tumbling (Ages 3 to young adult) – Instruction to develop overall coordination for everyday life or serious gymnastic pursuits. Training develops upper body strength; excellent for cheerleaders.

Adult (Ages 18 and older) – Ballet and tap classes are offered for adults in the afternoon and evening.

The Loft – Students unable to commit to a nine-month dance class can join the four- or six-week Loft Program of recreational classes for children, teens, and adults. There are no registration, recital, costume, or yearbook fees for Loft students. A flat four- or six-week program fee is collected at the beginning of the session.

Pay-per-Class – Most adult classes and certain director-approved classes can be paid per class. This includes master classes with guest instructors. In each case, a registration fee still applies. Pay-per-Class is for visiting students and for adults who can’t commit to a monthly installment program.

Private Lessons – One-on-one time for those seeking concentrated instruction. Recommended for students wishing to improve their technique, perform dance solos, or fine-tune dances for competition and performances. Students must be registered and taking general classes at LDAA to receive private lessons from our instructors and guest teachers. All dance solos and set private lesson series must be approved by the director. General tuition and other fees must be up to date before scheduling private lessons. (Refer to our private lesson policy for further details.)

Tuition and fees

Each student pays an annual $25 registration fee, a $25 recital fee, and a $20 yearbook fee. All of these fees are non-refundable.

A $50 costume deposit (one costume per class) is required to be paid by October 1, with any balance due by December 1. (A monthly $10 late fee will apply after December 31.) All students are required to have an appropriate costume for each class. Deposits are non-refundable once costumes have been ordered; costume balances remain a dancer’s responsibility should they elect not to participate in the recital after the participation deadline. (Many classes can not accept students late in the dance year because costumes can not be ordered, produced, and delivered in time for recital.)

The yearbook fee allows each student to receive a souvenir recital yearbook program. Individual poses can be ordered at an additional charge through the studio’s photographer; these are great souvenirs. To keep a consistent style throughout our program, we encourage parents to use yearbook photo poses for their “sentiment” ads. A sentiment ad not only celebrates a dancer’s year of achievement, it allows others to share their good wishes.

Tuition is due on or before the fifth of each month. LDAA accepts cash, checks and credit cards. A $10 late fee is added to any accounts not paid by the fifth of the month. To avoid payment delays, we ask parents and students to provide credit card information upon registration. A courtesy call is made to our primary contact number each time a credit card is used for payment.

If students need to withdraw from classes, they are asked to notify the school director prior to withdrawal. Withdrawal is by mutual consent; the date of notification (not the date of absence) is considered the departure date. There can be no refunds, credits, or transfers to another month. Once classes have begun, tuition is non-refundable.

Tuition fees are not pro-rated. If a student attends one or more classes in a month, the full month’s tuition is due. The school can not provide refunds or reductions for missed classes. If a student misses a class, he or she can make up the class within 30 days.

Please refer to seasonal session listings for specific class costs.

Dress code

Students are asked to dress appropriately for their selected classes. Dancewear can be purchased at the school’s “Dancing through life” boutique or from other dance clothing suppliers. If you have questions about what you should wear, ask your instructor.

  • For ballet, wear a black or RAD-level leotard, pink ballet tights, and pink ballet slippers. Hair should be up in a bun or braid.

  • For jazz, wear jazz shoes, jazz shorts or pants with a t-shirt. Hair should be pulled back.

  • For modern, wear a leotard, tights or loose-fitting pants; wear dance paws or be barefoot. Hair should be pulled back.

  • For tap, wear a leotard and tights or jazz pants and a t-shirt. Hair should be pulled back.

Jeans or other constrictive clothing is not allowed in any of the technique classes.

Recital

Our annual recital is the highlight of our training year. Recital participation is optional, but most students choose to perform. Typically, the recital is held at the end of May in the Wheelwright Auditorium of Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC. (Adult, Loft and Pay-per-class classes do not perform in the recital.)

A comprehensive souvenir recital yearbook program is produced to commemorate each recital. Friends and families can reserve advertisements to recognize the accomplishments of their special dancer.

Student commitment

A year of dance classes runs parallel with the school year. Students are encouraged to begin in the fall and continue for nine months, however registration is accepted throughout the year for most classes.

Students participating in a Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) curriculum should be enrolled by October 1 to be fully prepared for the March RAD exam.

Classes performing in the annual recital may be closed to new students once recital costumes are ordered.
