What To Expect
At Litchfield Dance Arts Academy (LDAA), we offer top quality dance training in an environment of enrichment and discovery. Through a philosophy of mutual respect, we expect each student to work toward his or her highest potential. In return, we commit to provide the care and attention each student deserves in an educational setting. We look forward to a successful and fulfilling 2009 program.

What To Bring
For daily classes, students should bring the appropriate clothing and footwear outlined in our “what to wear” section (below). Hair should be neat and styled appropriately to not interfere with dance instruction and practice.
We suggest that your dance bag include extra footwear, energy snacks, beverages, any accessories for foot care (pointe and barefoot) and personal items. You may want to bring change for the on-site beverage and snack machines.

Program
This two-week program, June 8-19, 2009, provides three class scheduling options and internationally-trained instructors. Students will be challenged in classes emphasizing ballet, pointe instruction, pointe variations, partnering, modern dance, jazz dance, and conditioning.

LDAA provides a full-service 10,000-square-foot facility that supports a pleasant, satisfying learning experience for each summer intensive participant. The facility offers floating, sprung wood floors; in-house closed-circuit television for class observation; a student lounge with vending machines and kitchen; changing rooms; and a retail boutique.

Location
Ballet at the Beach is designed for serious dance students who want to stay in top shape during the summer while also enjoying the relaxing South Carolina Lowcountry—either on their own or with accompanying family members.

The clean, wide beaches and charm of the area have made Pawleys Island a favorite laid-back coastal destination for generations. Take advantage of this extraordinary opportunity to sample southern hospitality while studying with internationally-recognized dance instructors in a state-of-the-art facility. Ballet at the Beach is presented by Litchfield Ballet Foundation; classes are conducted at Litchfield Dance Arts Academy (LDAA), which has achieved national recognition for its students’ achievements and faculty’s choreography.

Faculty
The faculty for the event consists of Rachel Ayers, Ilka Doubek, Elizabeth Lane, Orlando Molina, & Marion Tonner. Their bios can be found on the flyer/registration form for the event. Click Here   to print/view the flyer/registration.

Curriculum
The LDAA Summer Intensive focuses on developing well-rounded dancers by including a variety of dance disciplines and lectures with an emphasis on classical ballet training. During the program, students will study ballet technique, pointe, modern dance, jazz dance, variations, repertory, body dynamics, release technique, and conditioning. In the full program (option one), students will enjoy four classes/rehearsals daily with a renowned faculty and participate in a comprehensive curriculum of ballet repertory, history, and nutrition as well as other related subjects.

Performance
The summer program will conclude with a one-hour final showcase performance at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 19. Performance rehearsals will be held throughout the program as part of the summer intensive curriculum. Students will work with faculty in developing the performance theme and choreography.

The performance is open to students that participate in both weeks of the summer intensive. The event will be videotaped and copies will be made available for purchase.
